about

This track has been one I created a decade ago. I was young and didn't know what to do with it. So, I turned it into a big band chart in 2014. USF's top jazz ensemble performed it with me in the band (life-changing for me) and it was more of a West African thing then (that's the music I was studying at the time).

When it came time to put my own group together, I reworked it back closer to the original and came up with the version of this song you may know.

But then Dance of the Ancients happened and I was confronted with this new sound of music in my head – I wanted to codify it. So I talked with my coproducer Jon about it and said "I want to understand the new sound we're going after. I'd like to take 2 previous songs that we did and rework them in this style...just to hear the difference."

We did just that. And they made me very excited.

So I want to share them. This is the first of those tracks.

Enjoy this remix of Midnight Run in the Metal Jazz style – featuring Mauricio Rodriguez (the bass player from Dance of the Ancients – a world-class bass player & composer from Cuba who's made a worldwide impact in his own right).
